Meet Sarah O’Brien

Sarah is a dedicated divorce and family law attorney who combines sharp legal skill with deep compassion for her clients. A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Gordon College (2012) and a graduate of William & Mary Law School (2016), Sarah has built her career on a foundation of academic excellence and a genuine commitment to advocacy.
She began her legal journey in civil litigation, where she developed a strong command of courtroom strategy and case management. In 2019, Sarah joined Northeast Legal Aid’s Family Law Unit, focusing her practice on high-conflict domestic violence and complex family law cases. Her ability to navigate emotionally charged situations with both professionalism and empathy quickly set her apart.
Sarah’s courtroom experience is both extensive and impressive. Less than a year after joining Northeast Legal Aid, she tried her first case—a challenging three-day guardianship trial—and secured a successful outcome for her client. Not long after, in 2020, she filed her first appeal, demonstrating her willingness to fight for her clients at every level of the legal system.
What truly distinguishes Sarah, however, is her superpower: the ability to put clients at ease during some of the most stressful and uncertain times of their lives. She is known for her approachable demeanor, her ability to listen deeply, and her knack for generating creative, practical solutions that serve the long-term well-being of her clients and their families. Clients trust Sarah not only for her strong advocacy but also for the sense of calm and confidence she brings to each case.
Outside the courtroom, Sarah is just as dynamic. She enjoys powerlifting, a discipline that reflects her focus, determination, and inner strength. She is passionate about gardening with native plants, creating sustainable and beautiful spaces that reflect her care for growth and balance. Most importantly, Sarah cherishes time spent with her husband, young son, and their beloved black cat, Hobbes, who adds a playful touch to her busy life.
